BLACKPINK’s Experimental “Separate But Together” Activity Method: Will It Succeed Or Fail?

All four members of BLACKPINK eventually decided to leave YG Entertainment to carry out individual activities separately although their group promotions will still be conducted under YG’s management. In other words, the group will be active “separately but together” for the time being.

Many people view this new move of BLACKPINK members as an “experimental” method and various concerns also arose from that. If the image that YG created for BLACKPINK and the members for their group activities contradicts the new images they introduce while carrying out solo activities, it can also have a bad effect on the performance of BLACKPINK. Some pointed out that Lisa’s controversial performances at the cabaret show “Crazy Horse” in Paris last year did leave a bad impression on the public.

It is still unknown what will happen after the members leave YG’s management system and do individual activities freely as they want. In that process, they can showcase new sides but unexpected things and issues may also occur. The possibility that their team synergy and the chemistry between the members halves during team promotions cannot be ruled out.

Jennie set up her private company “OA”, while Jennie joined hands with the infant health functional food company run by her brother. The two can engage in their own activities because they are representatives of the agencies. It is not known whether they have recruited management experts to manage their artists’ schedules and handle risks, but the concerns would be greater if they don’t hire management experts. In the meantime, Jisoo’s new agency recently posted a job recruitment to look for staff.

Of course, those worries may not happen considering the history that BLACKPINK and YG have shared together. The members might have discussed and agreed on such issues when signing the contract for group activity. BLACKPINK is the first-ever group to challenge the “separate but together” method. Despite being a new experiment in the K-pop industry, it is worth looking forward to the results BLACKPINK will bring through it.
