BLACKPINK’s comeback after a year and 10 months still reaps success despite Jennie’s dating rumors

BLACKPINK’s comeback does not seem to be affected by Jennie’s growing dating rumors with BTS’s V.

After a hiatus from group promotions that lasted a year and 10 months, BLACKPINK is the most talked-about girl group right now after dropping the pre-release single “Pink Venom” ahead of their 2nd full album. Although member Jennie‘s alleged private photos were recently leaked, there has been no damage to BLACKPINK’s comeback.

BLACKPINK’s opening single “Pink Venom” was released on August 19th at 1 PM KST. The MV for “Pink Venom” surpassed 100 million views on YouTube after only 29 hours and 35 minutes, setting a new record among K-pop girl groups. In addition, the number of subscribers on BLACKPINK’s YouTube channel is about to reach 80 million, the first for any artist in the world.

BLACKPINK’s 2nd full album “BORN PINK” has exceeded 2 million copies in pre-order. This is the highest record for a female K-pop act in history. BLACKPINK is also achieving outstanding results on various major global charts.

“Pink Venom” topped the Spotify Daily Top Songs Global Chart for 3 days in a row and debuted at No. 2 on the weekly chart, the highest rank ever for a K-pop female song and the biggest debut by a K-pop artist in 2022. “Pink Venom” also occupied No. 1 on the iTunes song charts in 75 countries, and entered the UK Official Singles Chart at No. 22 for the first time.

On August 28 (local time), BLACKPINK will perform at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards (MTV VMAs) held at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. After the VMAs, BLACKPINK plans to carry out more activities in the US to promote their 2nd full album.

BLACKPINK is sweeping various charts with “Pink Venom”. Recently, allegedly private photos of Jennie were leaked and caused a stir, but this doesn’t seem to affect BLACKPINK’s comeback at all.

On August 24th, a photo believed to be Jennie and BTS’s V together was released through various online communities and SNS. Behind V, a girl presumed to be Jennie was smiling and taking a mirror selfie. The photo is assumed to be taken on the day V departed for Paris, France to attend the Celine fashion show. After the photo was spread across the Internet, dating rumors between Jennie and V were sparked once again.

Earlier in May of this year, alleged photos of V and Jennie driving together on Jeju Island were released, so rumors that they were an item immediately broke out. In response, their agencies, Big Hit Music and YG Entertainment, stayed silent.

On August 25th, another mirror selfie taken by a woman presumed to be Jennie was leaked. A man who looked like V was standing next to her. The background of the photo with some paintings lying around led to speculations that the two were at V’s apartment.

After actor Lee Dohyun’s Instagram was hacked recently, a theory surfaced that V and Jennie were also victims of hacking. A netizen said, “It seems that Jennie’s iCloud was hacked and these photos were uploaded without her consent. The hacker is currently threatening a common acquaintance of the two, or an acquaintance of either of them.” Many Hollywood stars have also experienced the same issues with privacy invasion.

Up to this point, Jennie and V’s agencies have not yet released any response. Despite the leak of Jennie’s private photos, BLACKPINK remains a hot topic with “Pink Venom”. Attention is paid to what the future performance of “Pink Venom” and “BORN PINK” will be.
