An article on BLACKPINK members’ contract status with YG reemerged amidst uncertainties about their future with the current company.
On April 18th, an article titled “BLACKPINK to move to YG affiliate The Black Label” published by The Korean Herald reemerged amidst uncertainty about the contract renewal status of BLACKPINK. The Black Label is headed by producer Teddy Park, who produces music for the girl group. He also has a close relationship with BLACKPINK members.
The information received mixed reactions from fans. Some believe, with YG, BLACKPINK will have more resources to work with. However, under The Black Label, the members will have more creative control over their music and more freedom to work on their artistic endeavors.
Nonetheless, it was quickly pointed out that the original article was from December. YG denied the rumor and deemed it to be groundless. The company has not announced any further news regarding the contract renewal status of the members. While being an affiliate label, The Black Label is responsible for their own direction.
Nonetheless, YG recently released four 4 additional concert nights in BLACKPINK’s “BORN PINK” world tour in North America. The last night of music in this region is set to be on August 26th, the expiry date of the members’ contracts with YG. Nonetheless, in an article released before Coachella, BLACKPINK affirmed that: “We think we create the biggest synergy when there are four of us, we want to continue with the music that we love for a long time as BLACKPINK.” Fans take this as a hint that BLACKPINK wants to continue their journey with YG Entertainment.
