BLACKPINK Received MBE Honors From King Charles III, Will Lisa Give Up On The Name ‘BLACKPINK’?

The girl group BLACKPINK has recently been awarded an honorable medal by the King of the United Kingdom

On November 22nd (local time), King Charles III awarded the Order of British Empire (MBE) to BLACKPINK at a ceremony to encourage cultural and arts at Buckingham Palace. This honor is given to individuals who have made significant contributions to British society or achieved outstanding accomplishments in areas such as politics, economy, arts and culture, science, and sports.

BLACKPINK was recognized for their efforts in raising global awareness of the importance of addressing climate change while serving as ambassadors for the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26), which the UK took over over as chair in 2021. The medal has previously been awarded to notable figures, such as The Beatles and singer Adele.

As this medal was awarded to globally renowned artists, it brings both joy and prestige. It is clear that this BLACKPINK obtained it solely in the name of a group, not as an individual achievement.

Of course, BLACKPINK members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa are doing well as individuals by working in various fields, such as music, album and even acting. While individual efforts and talents are undoubtedly important, it’s clear that the name ‘BLACKPINK’ also played a crucial role in this achievement.

At the moment, only Rosé is known to have renewed her contract with YG, but it is still unclear whether Jennie, Jisoo and Lisa will extend their contracts with YG. There are still many rumors and speculations that the three may not continue their journey under YG.

A media outlet recently reported that BLACKPINK agreed to sign a group contract with YG for group promotions, not individual activities. However, YG maintained their position that the contract renewal issue is still in discussion.

Despite YG’s repeated statement, people in the industry think that the re-signing of contracts for the three members except for Rosé seems impossible. In particular, Lisa has been involved in various rumors and controversies ever since her exclusive contract with YG expired. Although she gained tremendous popularity in Korea and overseas with her solo songs ‘LALISA’ and ‘MONEY’, all her achievements have been attributed to the name “BLACKPINK’s Lisa”.

Of course, Lisa has the potential to pursue her solo career, however, there is undoubtedly a gap between solo artist Lisa and Lisa from BLACKPINK. Under YG, she had received proper management and care from the company, but carrying out activities without the support from an entertainment agency like how she’s doing right now can lead to potential mistakes and risks.

Moreover, there is also a possibility that her personal fanbase may decline when she stepped out as a solo singer as many fans may have been more familiar with her image as BLACKPINK’s Lisa rather than Lisa as an individual.
