BLACKPINK Nominated in 6 Categories, K-pop Stars Shine at US Award Show

K-pop stars have garnered numerous nominations at the ‘2023 MTV Video Music Awards’ (VMA).

According to the list of nominees released on September 1st (local time) on the VMA website, BLACKPINK has been nominated in six categories, including ‘Best Editing,’ ‘Best Art Direction,’ ‘Best Choreography,’ ‘Best K-pop,’ ‘Group of the Year,’ and ‘Show of the Summer.’

Last year, BLACKPINK made history by performing on this awards show with their hit song ‘Pink Venom,’ becoming the first K-pop girl group to grace the VMA stage.

This year’s VMA nominations reflect the global popularity of K-pop, showcasing the strong presence of Korean artists on the world stage.

The group TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT) has received nominations in four categories with their hit song ‘Sugar Rush Ride’: ‘Group of the Year,’ ‘Song of Summer,’ ‘Push Performance of the Year,’ and ‘Best K-pop.’

Despite their ongoing contract dispute, the girl group FIFTY FIFTY has earned nominations in three categories with their global hit ‘Cupid’: ‘Group of the Year,’ ‘Song of Summer,’ and ‘Best K-pop.’

BTS member Jungkook, who previously reached the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with his solo debut song ‘Seven,’ has been nominated in the ‘Song of Summer’ category. This marks the second consecutive year that Jungkook has been nominated in this category, following his nomination last year for his collaboration with Charlie Puth on ‘Left and Right,’ making him the first Korean solo artist to achieve this feat.

Additionally, groups like SEVENTEEN and NewJeans have made it to the ‘Group of the Year’ nominee list, while aespa, SEVENTEEN, and Stray Kids are competing in the ‘Best K-pop’ category.

Furthermore, Stray Kids and TOMORROW X TOGETHER are included in the performer lineup, indicating that they will likely perform live at the awards ceremony.
