BLACKPINK Jennie’s acting skill is “far behind” Jisoo

Following Jisoo, another member of BLACKPINK, Jennie, has also ventured into acting,  initially drawing high expectations from global audiences. For her acting debut, Jennie took up a Hollywood project – the HBO series “The Idol”.

However, many people believe that choosing “The Idol” is a mistake for Jennie, as the series face heavy criticism for explicit scenes, which are said to be a “sordid male fantasy” and degrading towards women.

Additionally, her acting has received mixed opinions and has been compared to other K-pop idols.

Produced by The Weeknd, “The Idol” revolves around the female lead Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp), a pop music star on the verge of career downfall. Around the same time, she encounters a mysterious cult leader and owner of a nightclub named Tedros (played by The Weeknd).

Here, Jennie assumes the role of Dyanne, Jocelyn’s close friend who later tries to upstage her.

As “The Idol” aired its first episode, Jennie faced backlash for her sexy dance scene. Despite the series being rated for adults, many people still deem Jennie’s dance to be “‘vulgar” and tainting her image.

Furthermore, Jennie’s acting in the overall series are said to be still and dull. As a result, the female idol eventually got compared to her own group mate, Jisoo, who delivered a decent performance as the female lead of “Snowdrop”.

In fact, some even brought up Jennie’s statement of not having to prepare for her role in “The Idol”, citing this as the reason behind her unremarkable appearance.

Below are some comments from netizens:

  • Jennie did show some improvements as the show went on, but she still has a long way to go, especially when compared to Jisoo.
  • Hopefully, Jennie will choose better scripts and dedicate more time to improve her acting skills in the future
  • This series is simply “trashy”, Jennie’s choice this time is indeed a mistake.
  • Jisoo did so well in “Snowdrop”.If we are talking about acting, Jennie falls far behind Jisoo

On the other hand, due to heavy backlash and low viewing results, the runtime of “The Idol” will be cut, and no 2nd season will be produced.
