YG is really the weirdest company in Kpop, as fans are asking the company to “take their money” but YG still refuses to do their job.
Year-end period and the beginning of the new year is the time when companies have their profits summarized. Recently, a post about album sales of Kpop entertainment companies announced by Gaon Chart attracted attention on social media. Accordingly, domestic and international album sales of all K-pop artists in 2021 are 57 million copies, an increase of 36.9% compared to 2020 and an increase of 428% compared to 5 years ago.
SM and HYBE are the two companies that dominate physical album sales: SM artists sold 17.6 million copies, and HYBE artists sold 15.2 million copies, followed by JYP with 5.8 million copies sold, while YG only records a humble number of album sales: 2.6 million copies. YG is also the only company in Big 4 with a single-digit percentage (4.6%) out of the total album sales of K-pop.
Netizens can’t help but get sarcastic about YG’s poor performance in album sales. If artists under other companies constantly made comebacks, or released at least one album in 2021, famous YG artists like BIGBANG, BLACKPINK did not have any group promotions in the past year. Fans think that YG deserves this bad result for being so lazy. If it had not been for Lisa and Rosé‘s successful solo debuts, and BLACKPINK‘s old albums still being bought by fans, YG‘s total album sales would have been much worse.
YG is also considered a strange company for always delaying artists’ comebacks. Other companies are draining fandom money as much as they can, while YG just… keeps quiet. Does it seem that YG works not for profit, but for passion? From now on, let’s call YG Big 0: no music, no comeback, no work, and don’t need money!
- YG, please let BLACKPINK be “discharged from the army”.
- I really don’t understand YG’s move right now. I know it takes a long time to create a quality product, but this method cannot be applied to all artists.
- It’s not a joke to say that YG is a mid-range company!
- BLACKPINK saved that company but they don’t let their make a comeback
