Some fandoms of actors who appear in drama “Snowdrop” are currently doing organizational movements. They are reportedly sending protest emails and calls to some organizations that criticized “Snowdrop”.

They claimed that the controversy over history distortion, disparaging the democratic movement, and beautifying the National Security Planning Agency that is surrounding  “Snowdrop” has been distorted. Some fans have continued to distribute mail containing rebuttal data to related organizations and media outlets.

Regarding the story of “Snowdrop”, they released several arguments, saying “the spies were sent to Korea by the National Security Planning Agency”, “the production cost was not directly invested by a Chinese company but a form of investment by shares”, “the theories raised about the scene where the song ‘Sola Sola Blue Sola’ was played and the scene when people entering the women’s university dormitory without a search warrant and threaten others were only exaggerated interpretations”, and “this drama is not beautifying the National Security Planning Agency but only focuses on the evil and brutal side”.

They also pointed out, “‘Snowdrop’ team already informed that they have no intention in beautifying the National Security Planning Agency or disparaging the democratic movement”, adding, “Misunderstandings occurred as the drama’s content was revised and interpreted in a wrong way without considering the context of the drama and the rapid spread of fake news.”

BLACKPINK’s fandom also posted on DC Inside BLACKPINK Gallery, saying that they made a complaint call to ‘Lee Han-yeol Memorial Museum’. It is because BLACKPINK member Jisoo is starring in “Snowdrop” as the main character.

They shared ‘Lee Han-yeol Memorial Museum’’s phone number and induced more people to make complaint calls, creating an actual wave of protest calls afterward. One netizen certified, “They complained that young people hate it when democratization forces come out like this”

The public showed a cold gaze at this issue. They pour out criticism, pointing out that posts to certify fans’ protest emails and phone calls are spread to other communities and that these fandoms show excessive behaviors due to insufficient historical awareness.

In addition, fans also shared a number of posts containing the message  “Please stop twisting the content of Snowdrop” on SNS, asking for firepower from overseas fans.

Regarding this, Internet users pointed out, “Dragging foreign fans who have no understanding of the Korean democratization movement into this issue is a serious problem.”

Fandoms of other BLACKPINK members are also expressing their anger. They said that other members are being criticized because of Jisoo fans’ insensitive behaviors.

It is expected that controversies related to “Snowdrop” will continue to heat up even more.

As the backlash is getting more intense, complaints have been officially filed against JTBC’s representative, writer Yoo Hyun-mi and director Jo Hyun-tak of “Snowdrop” to the National Newspaper for violating the National Security Act. In addition, companies that support the production and advertisers are withdrawing from this drama project.

JTBC announced its position on December 21st and said, “The core value that we pursue is freedom of creation and independence of production,” adding, “Most of the misunderstandings will be resolved when more developments of the drama are revealed.”
