Bizarre: 3 Strands of Jang Wonyoung’s Hair Auctioned for 14,000 USD in China

3 strands of Jang Wonyoung’s hair were auctioned at a high price in China, attracting 1,200 views and 15 bidders. 

On February 23, news site Yahoo Taiwan reported that a Chinese fan suddenly held a public auction for 3 strands of Jang Wonyoung’s hair on a second-hand website with a starting price of 9,999 CNY (approx. 1,400 USD). Moreover, the seller claimed to have collected the hair of the famous female singer from an IVE concert and even declared that they will “support DNA identification”.

In just a short time, the auction attracted over 1,200 live viewers and 15 bidders. According to sources, one bidder was willing to pay over 103,000 CNY (14,000 USD) to own all 3 strands of Jang Wonyoung’s hair. 

As a result, the topic “Jang Wonyoung’s hair auctioned” has become viral on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, attracting over 83 million views in a short period.

Meanwhile, Chinese news site 163 criticized the auctioneer and bidders for infringing on the Jang Wonyoung’s rights, at the same time asking that people show love for their idol in appropriate manners. 

On social media forums, many viewers also expressed frustration and warned of the risk of scams from the aforementioned auction.
