Big Hit Music Takes Legal Action Against The Camp’s Unauthorized Use Of BTS’s Portraits & Names

On January 9th, Big Hit Music official said to Xsports News, “We will take stern measures after confirming the unauthorized use of BTS members’ portraits, names, etc. of The Camp, which is considered an infringement of publicity rights”.

Big Hit Music recently sent proof of infringement of BTS’s publicity rights to The Camp, which is a service that allows family and friends to send online letters to military service soldiers through a mobile app and website.

The Camp recently opened a separate community for BTS members. Using the term “official”, The Camp’s commerce channel The Camp Mall sold dolls and soldier name tags, which can be attached to the doll, using the real name of the soldiers. However, Big Hit Music claimed that the artists’ names are their intellectual property (IP).

Publicity rights, also known as portrait rights, refer is the exclusive rights to commercially use or permit and control the use of a person’s name, portrait, etc. As such, there have been various concerns arising from the operation of The Camp.
