Beyoncé, who was late due to the terrible traffic jam in LA, was unable accept the award for “Best R&B Song” in person. Luckily, Nile Rodgers was present to take the award on her behalf thanks to the additional writing credit of the song, “When I got called to play on this song, it was the most organic thing that ever happened to me. I heard the song, and I just said, ‘All right, I want to play on that, right now.’ And it was one take […] It was just what I felt in my heart, and I’m so happy to be working with y’all.”

Nonetheless, Beyonce was able to make it to the ceremony to accept the award for “Best Dance/Elethronic Album.” Lifting her 32nd Grammy trophy, Beyonce said:

Beyonce Grammys

“I’m trying not to be too emotional. I’m trying to just receive this night. I want to thank God for protecting me. Thank you, God. I’d like to thank my uncle Johnny who’s not here, but he’s here in spirit. I’d like to thank my parents, my father, my mother for loving me and pushing me. I’d like to thank my beautiful husband, my beautiful three children who are at home watching.  I’d like to thank the queer community for your love, for inventing the genre. God bless you. Thank you so much to the Grammys. Thank you.”
