Behind stories about BLACKPINK Rosé’s surprise appearance on Cannes red carpet revealed by photographers and reporters

In an interview with Newsen, one foreign reporter said, “If it were Jennie, we would never have missed the chance. Rosé’s appearance was truly unexpected”. They also provided an explanation that was not very convincing, saying “Many reporters also failed to recognize Rosé. Maybe because she’s a singer?”
Among the hundreds of photojournalists at Cannes, only Korean and a few people from overseas news agencies realized the appearance of Rosé and took pictures of her. Typically, the on-site MC would announce the names of celebrities who show up on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet and provide information to the photojournalists and fans. Rosé was the only world star who was named at the scene.
Korean reporters who were at the red carpet event that day said they were very surprised to see foreign photographers not focusing their cameras on her. Some foreign journalists even thought, “She’s a beautiful Japanese woman”, upon seeing Rosé
Because of such an incident, Jennie received enthusiastic attention when she attended the red carpet a few days later. Photographers and reporters who failed to capture Rosé in the previous event showed a strong determination not to miss Jennie this time. Gathering in the press room after Jennie’s red carpet time, photojournalists mostly exchanged words like “Did you take nice photos of Jennie?”.
On May 17th (local time), Rosé joined the red carpet event for Hirokazu Kore-eda’s movie “Monster” held at Palais des Festival’s Lumiere Grand Theater in Cannes, France.
Rosé made a surprise appearance on the red carpet wearing a black halterneck-style long dress. With her short bangs put down slightly, the female idol exuded an elegant yet cute charm.
Earlier on May 16th, Rosé already announced through her Instagram that she was invited to the Cannes Film Festival by the luxury French brand Saint Laurent for which she is working as a global ambassador.
Meanwhile, the other BLACKPINK member Jennie stepped on the red carpet on the 22nd as an actress. Jennie made her acting debut through HBO’s American drama “The Idol”, which was invited to the Non-competition section of the Cannes Film Festival. This drama depicts the relationships surrounding a rising pop idol and the music industry.
With her first acting challenge through “The Idol”, Jennie attended both the red carpet and official screening schedules.
