Yang Hyun Suk, despite having resigned as CEO and chief producer of YG Entertainment for 3 years, still silently watches and shows support for YG artists whom he created. According to many YG fans, Yang Hyun Suk’s scandals don’t change the fact that he was a dedicated leader and producer that many YG idols respect.
Recently, TREASURE successfully held their first concert in Seoul. To fans’ surprise, Yang Hyun Suk was spotted at the concert venue to cheer for TREASURE. The photo of him sitting in the stands while smiling proudly as he watched TREASURE’s performances drew much attention. In fact, it was former CEO Yang who personally selected and provided TREASURE members with training to make them the well-rounded idol group they are today, so of course, he could not miss their first concert.
Before stepping down from all positions at YG due to sex and drug scandals, Yang Hyun Suk continued to shower his artists with support, both silently and openly. He gave YG artists the chance to participate in music production and unleash their potential. He closely monitored the process of preparation for every album, from recording, dance practice to MV filming.
BLACKPINK’s Jennie once talked about the great support she received from former CEO Yang when she made her solo debut in 2018. She revealed, “Our CEO gave me extra attention while I was preparing for the solo debut. He texted me every day. He put care into every single outfit and offered me advice.” Jennie added that Yang Hyun Suk also encouraged her to be more confident with her solo.
YG’s ex-CEO was always present at concert rehearsals. In early 2021, a familiar voice was at the end of BLACKPINK’s rehearsal for their online concert The Show. It seems that Yang Hyun Suk came and directed the rehearsal for BLACKPINK. Although he already resigned at the time, he still cared deeply for YG artists.
He used to be called “Father Yang” by YG fans because he treats YG idols like real family members. On every birthday of BLACKPINK members, he congratulated them on his personal SNS. On Jisoo’s 24th birthday, he shared a post wishing her a happy birthday in both English and Korean. On Jennie’s birthday in 2019, he also greeted her using an adorable childhood picture of Jennie.
On the 29th birthday of former BIGBANG member Seungri, Yang Hyun Suk even brought him to tears at a birthday dinner.
In June, 2019, amid scandals, Yang Hyun Suk announced his resignation and stepped down from all positions at YG, making many YG fans feel regretful. Regardless of his wrongdoings, Yang Hyun Suk is still the powerful man who founded a K-pop giant, trained and nurtured generations of idols.
