In the aftermath of the tragic July 28 mass shooting at Bangkok’s Or Tor Kor Market, which left six people dead, the gunman’s wife — a longtime vendor at the market — has finally spoken out, offering a heart-wrenching account of the moments leading up to the attack.

In an emotional interview with reporters, the woman, whose identity remains protected, said she had no inkling that her husband, Noy (61), was planning such a violent act. “That morning, he woke up early, showered as usual, and even drove me to the market himself. Everything seemed completely normal,” she recalled. “He didn’t come into the market with me. He just dropped me off and left.”

Minutes later, chaos erupted. Gunshots rang out through the crowded market. Like others, she ran for safety, unaware that the shooter was her own husband. “I didn’t know it was him. I only found out later through a vendor group chat. I was in shock,” she said, tearfully.

According to her, the tragic rampage stemmed from a longstanding grudge dating back to 2019, when her husband’s beloved pickup truck — a 2023 Isuzu four-door — was scratched. Noy became convinced that a market security guard, known as “X,” was responsible. “He loved that truck. He was obsessed with it. Ever since that incident, every time he saw the guards, especially that one man, he’d get angry,” she explained.

While she acknowledged his volatile personality, especially under the influence of alcohol, she never imagined things would escalate to such an extreme. “Yes, he could be aggressive when drunk. We argued, and he even hit me a few times. But I never thought he could kill anyone. I’m truly sorry,” she sobbed.

Bangkok police continue to investigate the shooting, which was reportedly fueled by personal disputes and not tied to terrorism or organized crime. The weapon used — a legally owned CZ 9mm pistol — still had one bullet remaining at the time of recovery.

Or Tor Kor Market was temporarily closed on July 29 to assist in the investigation and allow vendors time to recover from the traumatic event.
