bang si hyuk travel ban

The United States Embassy in South Korea has reportedly requested Korean police to allow Bang Si Hyuk to travel to the United States, despite his current overseas travel ban.

According to reports, the embassy recently sent an official letter to the National Police Agency’s acting commissioner, asking for cooperation so that Bang and other senior executives from HYBE could visit the U.S.

The request outlined several key reasons for the proposed trip. Among them were participation in the upcoming 250th U.S. Independence Day celebrations on July 4, as well as support for BTS during their ongoing U.S. tour.

These factors suggest the visit could carry both cultural and business significance, especially given HYBE’s strong presence in the global music market.

However, the situation remains complicated. Bang Si Hyuk has been under an overseas travel ban since August of last year due to an ongoing police investigation into alleged violations of capital market laws.

Authorities suspect that during HYBE’s listing process, existing shareholders were misled into selling their stakes, allowing profits estimated at around 190 billion KRW (approx. $140 million USD).

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency has been investigating the case for over a year, with officials stating that the probe is now nearing completion.

Despite the embassy’s reported letter, police officials clarified that they have not yet formally received the request. They added that if such a request is submitted, it will be reviewed carefully based on legal principles.

An official noted that the investigation is in its final stages, currently undergoing legal analysis, and may conclude in the near future.

The development has drawn attention across the K-pop industry, as it involves one of its most influential figures and a major global player like HYBE.

With international events, BTS activities, and legal proceedings all intersecting, the outcome of this request could have broader implications—not just for Bang Si Hyuk, but for the global operations of K-pop companies.

As of now, no decision has been made regarding the travel request. The case highlights the delicate balance between legal accountability and global business interests, especially in an industry as internationally connected as K-pop.
