Bang Si-hyuk, “It’s Time To Take K Off From K-pop”+” I trained BTS to the point they hated me”

Bang Si-hyuk recently had an interview with Maeil Kyungjae, a business paper dubbed “The Financial Times of Korea”

In this interview, the reporter said, “K-pop is at its peak now, but a crisis can come at any time, and some say the crisis has begun.”

Regarding this, Bang Si-hyuk said, “Actually, I often say that we have to take K off from ‘K-pop’ these days. K-pop now has to meet a wider consumer base in the wider market,” adding, “I think we need to create many exits and entrances that can access universal values globally. If K-pop continues to be structured like it is now, I think there will definitely be a limit to its growth.”

The reporter also asked, “BTS dances as if their bones are breaking. How does that happen? Is it training?”

The producer answered, “What can be done with training is up to about a year after debut. In the end, it’s up to them, but it seems to be related to the fans. It is important that K-pop fans have certain tastes and that they do not fail in their choices. To keep fans from leaving, the artist basically has to be an ambitious. An artist who doesn’t want to succeed is unlikely to succeed. The stage is where those things are best revealed.”

He revealed, “The members of the BTS are modest and very ordinary, but they have a huge ambition to succeed musically. It was the stage that could show them best. It is true that they were trained to the point where they really hated me,” adding, “But now, who dares to tell BTS, “You have to practice for a few hours a week?” However, they eventually come in the practice room, because they don’t want to go on stage without practicing. Practice is the source of confidence.”
