Actor Jang Geun Suk expressed feelings about his return after 5 years.
On the afternoon of Jan 25th, the press preview and press conference of Coupang Play’s series “Bait” was held at Megabox COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Director Kim Hong Seon, actors Jang Geun Suk, Heo Sung Tae and Lee Elijah attended the event.
“Bait” is a crime thriller that tracks the secrets surrounding the culprit of the biggest fraud in history 8 years after his death as he was identified as a suspect in a murder.
In “Bait”, Jang Geun Suk plays the role of Violent Crime detective Goo Do Han. He explained, “It’s been a long time since I made a comeback, so I thought about what kind of image I could show. While taking on the role of Goo Do Han, I wondered if it’d be a new look to break away from the self I had until now. I tried to grow a beard and express a rough man, so I took a lot of moderation while filming.“
In particular, “Bait” is Jang Geun Suk’s first comeback in about 5 years since SBS’ “Switch” (2018). Jang Geun Suk said, “5 years passed quickly, including the period after I served in the army. I didn’t know it’d take this long. The first thing I want to say is that the script I cherished so that the wait wouldn’t be in vain is ‘Bait’.“
He confessed, “I’ve been charging a lot for 5 years and I’ve never taken a break while promoting. Rather than resting, I lived by enjoying the life I wanted. Of course, I read a lot of scripts, did research and learned what I wanted to learn. I spent 5 years like that. I had a lot of discussions with the director to draw a lot of senses on set, and I thought about how to make as good a picture as possible with the actors on set. The set was fun and meaningful.“
When asked about the effort he put into expressing his character, Jang Geun Suk replied, “I thought a lot about how to make everything natural, from production, makeup to body movements. As an actor, to be honest, I had a desire to break myself once. Rather than the obvious appearance of Jang Geun Suk, the desire to pull off a new me was the result I felt after 5 years of waiting. It’s my goal.“
Meanwhile, “Bait” will be released for the first time through Coupang Play at 8 PM on Jan 27th.
