On December 23, the Hongseong Branch of the Daejeon District Prosecutors’ Office announced that it had ruled no charges against Baeksuldo-ga, a liquor distributor linked to Baek Jong Won, citing insufficient evidence. The decision also applies to one related individual, with prosecutors issuing a formal notice of non-indictment.

The controversy began in September, when a netizen filed a complaint through the national petition platform, alleging misleading origin labeling on products sold under IGIN, a liquor brand jointly invested in by Baek Jong Won and BTS member Jin through their company Gini Stamp.

The complaint claimed that the origin labeling of certain IGIN highball tonic products specifically the plum-flavored and watermelon-flavored versions could potentially mislead consumers regarding the source of their ingredients.

After reviewing the case, prosecutors concluded that the allegations did not meet the legal threshold for violation.

According to the ruling:

  • The product descriptions clearly stated “plum concentrate (imported: Chile)” and “watermelon concentrate (imported: USA)” on the online product pages.
  • The manufacturing and production process took place in Yesan County, South Chungcheong Province, as legally disclosed.
  • There was no evidence of intentional deception or omission regarding ingredient origins.

Based on these findings, the prosecution determined that it was difficult to establish a breach of the labeling law.

The ruling marks a significant turning point for Baek Jong Won, who has faced multiple controversies over the past year.

Earlier this year, Baek drew criticism over the pricing of The Born Korea’s “Baek Ham” gift set, which sparked widespread debate. Additional allegations followed, including claims related to:

  • LPG safety management violations
  • Agricultural land law violations
  • Misrepresentation of citrus beer ingredients
  • Failure to properly label ingredient origins

Amid mounting backlash, Baek Jong Won released a public apology video and announced a temporary halt to his broadcast activities.

Approximately six months after stepping back, Baek Jong Won has begun resuming his public activities. He recently appeared on MBC’s “Chef of Antarctic”, signaling his return to television, and garnered attention as a judge on “Culinary Class War 2.”

With the latest prosecutorial ruling, Baek Jong Won appears to have formally cleared one of the most serious allegations against him, potentially stabilizing his public image as he continues his return to the entertainment and culinary spotlight.
