Athlete Lin Xiao-jun’s controversial remark regarding BTS’s win at the Billboard Awards: “Is it fair?”
Lin Xiaojun (Korean name Lim Hyo-joon), an ex-member of the South Korean short-track speed skating team who has naturalized in China, was suspected of groundlessly criticizing BTS in the past.
On Feb 16th, a screenshot started spreading around the online community showing Lin Xiao-jun making a fuss in the comment section of a BTS photo posted on the SNS account of athlete Lee Yoo-bin, a member of the Korean women’s short track national team, around May 2017.
According to the screenshot in question, Lee Yoo-bin posted a congratulatory message to BTS who won the Top Social Artist category at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards, in which Lin Xiao-jun left a random comment saying, “Is it fair?”
Many responded that they were ‘puzzled’. It is hard to understand how Lin has such doubt about BTS’s award when the group has such a high recognition and strong fandom in the U.S.
In addition, Lee Yoo-bin has been widely known as a fan of BTS since 2015, and it is also hard to understand why he posted such a comment on Lee Yoo-bin‘s SNS to undermine BTS.
Lin Xiao-jun was handed over to trial in 2019 for taking off his male junior’s pants during training, but was eventually acquitted by the Supreme Court. In the process, Lin Xiao-jun naturalized in China and is working as a short-track speed skating athlete for the China national team.
