ATEEZ’s San explains racial discrimination controversy “It makes me sad that there are misunderstandings”

ATEEZ's San addressed claims that he faced racial discrimination at a Dolce & Gabbana event held in Italy

On July 8th, San spoke about the recent Dolce & Gabbana event during a live broadcast on the fan community.

San clarified the controversy surrounding his challenging outfit and the lack of a cushion at his seat. He explained, “For the outfit, a total of 10 fitting outfits were prepared. They prepared 10 outfits for me, which is quite a lot. I tried on each one, and the staff said (the controversial outfit) looked good. I also thought, ‘This is wearable.’ When viewed from a modern artistic perspective, I thought it looked cool. When I discussed it with my company, they said it would be good to try it.”

Regarding the claim that his seat was the only one without a cushion, San explained, “First of all, I sat like that myself. I had no choice because the person next to me was large. I also have a rather large build. I’m quite introverted, and since the seat was narrow, I felt sorry and leaned forward a bit.”

He continued, “It makes me a bit sad that there are misunderstandings. There was absolutely no such incident. I came back with unforgettable memories. I wanted to clarify because I feared there might be misunderstandings. There was absolutely no issue. Please, no misunderstandings.”

San also mentioned that he received a lot of affection and attention from the event organizers. He said, “Grandpa Dolce (Domenico Dolce) told me during dinner, ‘Italy loves you.’ He said many nice things to me.”

He added, “The representative from the Korean branch also treated me well. They adjusted the schedule, rest and things I wanted to do to suit me. (Domenico Dolce) reminded me of my grandfather, so I was very touched.

He further said, “I wanted to brag to you all. I received so much love, and the celebrities there liked me and cherished me. (Celebrities) said ‘Isn’t that San?’ ‘Let’s take a photo’, ‘It’s an honor’, which made me feel very good.

Previously, on July 2nd (local time), San attended the Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda show held in Nora, Sardinia, Italy.

At the time, San wore a chocolate-colored top inspired by Baroque-style sculptures, matching wide flare pants. However, this outfit became problematic. There were speculations that the rather challenging outfit was given to the Asian San.

Moreover, when photos emerged of San sitting squeezed between attendees without a cushion during the show, the controversy over him facing racial discrimination intensified. However, San personally denied these allegations to mitigate the situation.
