As university festivals resurrect, controversies related to invited singers are also a hot topic

Campuses across the country are excited as the university festivals, which had stopped due to the pandemic, were revived after three years. However, various controversies have arisen, drawing attention.

A university located in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province, will hold a two-day festival on May 30th and 31st, featuring famous singers such as Psy, Punch, and Kid Milli.

However, when the relatively low-profile girl group cignature was included in the lineup, there were complaints among students, and the student council even has to step up and explain.

It turned out that cignature’s appearance was a part of the agency’s promotion plan, and the group’s performance required no additional cost. In response, the student council said, “We focus on producing the maximum effect at the lowest cost, and as a result, we decided to receive this girl group merit that does not cost any additional casting fee from our limited budget.”

When these statements were made public, some expressed their concern, saying that they seemed to be very inconsiderate towards cignature, who would perform for free.

Cignature is the first group of J9 Entertainment, a new girl group label established by C9 Entertainment. They debuted with the single “Nun Nu Nan Na” in February 2020, and is actively promoting. They released their first mini-album in November last year.

BIBI then drew attention by performing her stage with the man sitting down while making provocative choreography as well as bold touches with him. In particular, BIBI drew attention by putting the man’s hand on her waist and kissing him.

Since then, the scene has spread quickly online, and some netizens have defended her, saying it is “just a simple fan service,” while others reacted more sharply, calling it “excessive behavior.”
