Biography
Nicha Yontararak, known professionally as Minnie, is a Thai singer, songwriter, producer, and actress based in South Korea. She is the main vocalist of the South Korean girl group I‑dle, formed by Cube Entertainment, and made her solo debut in January 2025 with her first extended play, Her.
Early Life and Education
Minnie was born on October 23, 1997, in Bangkok, Thailand, into a family with a strong musical background; her mother, aunt, and uncle played the piano, which sparked her early interest in music. She has older twin brothers.
She began playing piano at age five and took vocal lessons from age six, guided strongly by her mother’s influence. Minnie attended Wattana Wittaya Academy and studied music at the Grammy Vocal Studio in Thailand. In school she engaged in several activities, including cheerleading, drumming, and acting in theatre, and also studied Chinese for four years.
Minnie is multilingual, speaking Thai, English, Korean, Mandarin, and Japanese, which has helped her adapt to the international entertainment environment.
Career
Pre-Debut and Cube Tree (2014–2017)
In September 2014, Minnie auditioned for Cube Entertainment during the Cube Star World Audition in Thailand and was selected as a trainee. She moved to South Korea in 2015 to begin her formal training under the company. She was publicly introduced as part of the trainee group Cube Tree in March 2016.
During her trainee years, Minnie appeared in promotional content alongside future (G)I-dle members and contributed vocals to projects such as Line Friends’ “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and children’s music collections.
Debut with I-dle (2018–present)
On April 18, 2018, Minnie was revealed as the final member of (G)I-dle. The group officially debuted on May 2, 2018, with their first mini-album I Am, where she served as the main vocalist. Since debut, Minnie has been known for her unique and soothing voice and strong vocal performances in group releases.
In addition to group activities, Minnie has participated in songwriting and composition for example, contributing to tracks such as “Blow Your Mind” and others in (G)I-dle’s catalog.
Solo Activities and Acting
In 2020, Minnie expanded her career into acting, making her acting debut in the Netflix sitcom So Not Worth It, portraying a fictionalized version of herself.
On January 21, 2025, Minnie released her solo debut EP Her, featuring a range of musical styles and showcasing her songwriting and production involvement.
