Early Life and Education
Yoo Seung-yeon was born on February 27, 1993, in Seoul, South Korea. She grew up in a family connected to the entertainment and culinary worlds; her father, Yoo Chang-joon, worked as a private chef for former president Kim Dae-jung and later as head chef at the Seoul Plaza Hotel for over two decades. Gong’s younger sister is Yoo Jeong-yeon, a member of the South Korean girl group TWICE.
Gong studied at Sungshin Women’s University, where she pursued studies related to visual media and performance. She also trained as a K-pop trainee under SM Entertainment for several years before shifting her focus entirely to acting.

Pre-Debut and Acting Transition
Gong Seung-yeon entered the entertainment industry early, drawing attention as a talented youth and eventually joining SM Entertainment as a trainee. Initially training with aspirations of becoming an idol, she transitioned to acting and made her on-screen debut in 2012 with a minor role in the drama I Love Lee Tae-ri. This role marked the beginning of her acting career and a shift in her professional ambitions.
Breakthrough and Major Roles (2015–Present)
Gong gained wider recognition for her role in the historical drama Six Flying Dragons (2015–2016), which served as a breakthrough in her acting career. Since then, she has appeared in a variety of well-known television series across genres, including The Master of Revenge (2016), Introverted Boss (2017), Circle (2017), Are You Human? (2018), and Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency (2018). She also starred in Bulgasal: Immortal Souls (2021–2022) and the SBS series The First Responders (2022–2023).
In film, Gong has appeared in Aloners (2021), a critically regarded feature focusing on themes of isolation and modern life. She also appeared in the 2024 comedy-horror film Handsome Guys, a Korean remake of Tucker & Dale vs. Evil.
