As the backlash surrounding Perfect Crown continues to grow, attention is now focusing on Gong Seung Yeon’s upcoming appearance on You Quiz on the Block.

The drama, which concluded on May 16, recorded high ratings and strong buzz throughout its run. However, it ultimately ended on a controversial note after becoming embroiled in accusations of historical distortion.

In particular, criticism centered around a coronation scene featuring a ceremonial crown associated with imperial China, as well as officials shouting “Cheonse,” a term typically reserved for emperors rather than Korean kings.

As the controversy intensified, lead actors IU and Byeon Woo Seok each released apology statements on May 18. Director Park Joon Hwa also personally apologized to reporters on May 19.

Writer Yoo Ji Won later posted an apology through the official website, making the incident a rare case in which the writer, director, and lead actors all publicly apologized over a production controversy.

Amid the fallout, viewers are now paying close attention to the May 20 broadcast of tvN’s You Quiz on the Block, which will feature Gong Seung Yeon as a guest.

In the drama, Gong Seung Yeon played Yoon Yi Rang. Throughout the series, she received praise for her stable acting performance and, coincidentally, gained attention as the “biggest beneficiary” amid criticism directed at IU and Byeon Woo Seok’s acting.

In the preview released last week, MC Yoo Jae Suk introduced Gong Seung Yeon by saying she was “enjoying a prime era after 15 years thanks to Perfect Crown.” Her appearance on the show was also widely interpreted as part of the drama’s promotional activities.

Additionally, when Yoo Jae Suk mentioned the drama’s explosive popularity, Gong Seung Yeon jokingly responded, “I guess I’ll hop aboard the IU and Byeon Woo Seok train too,” drawing laughter.

Given the content shown in the preview, many believe the original broadcast likely included extensive conversation related to Perfect Crown.

However, with the writer, director, and actors all issuing apologies following the drama’s finale, viewers are now wondering whether references to the controversial series will remain in the final broadcast or be edited out entirely.
