Appeal trial for ex-EXO Kris Wu conducted privately, will the original verdict change?

The appellate court recently held a trial for former EXO member Kris Wu (real name Wu Yifan).

Chinese media CCTV reported on July 25th that the 3rd Immediate People’s Court in Beijing held the second trial for Kris Wu on charges of rape and crew’s obscenity privately.

The court did not explain in detail the trial that day but only stated that Kris Wu’s legal rights were guaranteed during the litigation proceedings.

The court will announce the verdict on Kris Wu’s appeal soon.

Earlier in July 2021, Kris Wu was exposed by a Chinese woman named A for sexually assaulting several minors, causing great shock to the public and fans.

He was eventually arrested and prosecuted in June of the same year on charges of sexual assault and crew’s obscenity. In November, Kris was sentenced to 11 years and 6 months in prison for rape and 1 year and 10 months for obscenity, which result in an overall imprisonment of 13 years.

In addition, the court also issued an order to deport him abroad after he complete the sentence. Kris has filed an appeal against the ruling of the first trial.
