“Apartment 404” PD Reveals Story Behind BLACKPINK’s Jennie Casting, “She Has A Great Spirit”

The new entertainment program “Apartment 404” is expected to once again showcase the charm of PD Jung’s entertainment style by combining cast members whom he had worked together with and new faces. 

PD Jung reunited with BLACKPINK’s Jennie five years after Season 1 of “Village Survival, the Eight” in 2018. Jennie has participated in only two entertainment programs, but all of them are directed by PD Jung.

Regarding his secret to the casting of Jennie, PD Jung carefully said, “I don’t think there’s any secret for that”. He shared, “I did the same thing with ‘Village Survival, the Eight’. If anyone is interested in the program, they can join, but if they don’t they don’t have to. When there’s a good project, I also make casting offers, but if they cannot join due to some reasons, that’s fine”, adding “Fortunately, Jennie really liked ‘Village Survival, the Eight’. There were no malicious edits or edits deviating from the original directing intention. That’s why we were able to build trust.”

He continued, “Jennie was doing a world tour at that time, so I was hesitant to approach her with the offer because she seemed to be very busy. I was invited to BLACKPINK’s last concert in Seoul and we had a conversation when I arrived at the venue. Since the tour had ended, I casually asked her, ‘Do you have any thoughts of joining?’, and she said she was very interested in the program. So I sent her the plan, and she called me that night saying she enjoyed reading it. It didn’t take much time for her to agree to appear on the show”, revealing a behind-the-scenes story.

Regarding Jennie’s charms as an entertainer, PD Jung said, “She’s very honest and somewhat gentle”, adding “She’s very honest with all emotions. She has a great spirit. As an entertainer, Jennie is very lovely and cute. Rather than forcing her to do something, I would rather ask her ‘Just enjoy the show as much as you want’, then she would show her true self and showcase her strengths”.
