Not Go Yoon Jung’s beauty, “Alchemy of Souls 2” needs to prove “this” to persuade the viewers with the female lead replacement

As “Alchemy of Souls 2” has begun broadcasting, viewers once again discussed about the female lead replacement.

tvN’s Sat-Sun drama “Alchemy of Souls 2” recently aired its first episode. 4 months after the end of Part 1, the drama returned with Part 2. Go Yoon Jung, who appeared as Naksu In Season 1, becomes the female lead of Season 2. Viewers raised doubts upon hearing the news that Jung So Min, who led Part 1, would be replaced by Go Yoon Jung in Season 2.

Although the 4-month hiatus was for the production of  “Alchemy of Souls 2”, it seems to have created a pause in the process of the female lead replacement. Since Jung So Min’s aura in Part 1 received favorable reviews, it is inevitable that viewers would resist the immediate change in the main character actor and the story development. In fact, Season 2, which returned after 4 months with Go Yoon Jung, seems to have erased viewers’ sense of resistance.

What is left is that Go Yoon Jung, who is now starring in the drama as the new female lead, has to convince viewers of the replacement. Indeed, if viewers are able to understand why “Alchemy of Souls 2” had to change its female lead, they will easily immerse themselves in the new narrative.

Naksu’s face appeared in the first episode of “Alchemy of Souls 2”, but the identity of this character, who was confined to a detached house while being cut off from the world. The introduction of the characters in this work also leaves out the explanation of the character played by Go Yoon Jung although she is the female lead. The character relationship chart shows that the production team intentionally hides the identity of this character. In the chart, this character is marked with “?” and introduced as “a woman who has lost her memory with the face of Naksu”.

At the end of Part 1, when Mu Deok (Jung So Min) is gradually petrified, there is a scene in which she eventually jumps into Gyeongcheon Daeho Lake and was pulled back onto the ground by two women. In addition, Jang Wook (Lee Jae Wook), who was thought to be dead, revives and comes back to life.

In other words, the mysterious character “?” is bound to be related to the event of Mu Deok jumping into the lake in some way. Since the character is Mu Deok on the outside but is actually Naksu inside, it makes the viewers curious about the identity of the character that is difficult to judge from its appearance. 

In the end, it is important for the character played by Go Yoon Jung to reveal the “secret” of her identity and persuade the viewers with the female lead replacement that previously received harsh criticism.

Of course, the image of Jung So Min still remains a strong impression. Some people comment that some lines said by Go Yoon Jung would have been better with the acting of Jung So Min. However, if the concerns about the mysterious identity of the character are convincingly solved, “Alchemy of Souls 2” can possibly make viewers welcome the new story.
