Ahn Eun-jin Overcomes Miscast Controversy And Proves Her Acting Through ‘My Dearest’, “I Lost So Much Weight”
Actress Ahn Eun-jin revealed various behind-the-scenes stories about the recently ended drama “My Dearest”
On November 21st, Ahn Eun-jin had an interview at a cafe in Seocho-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul and talked about the drama “My Dearest”, which ended successfully with a rating peak of 12.9%.
Revealing her effort to portray the role of Yoo Gil-chae, Ahn Eun-jin said, “I lost a lot of weight. I couldn’t remember how much weight I lost but my face really became thinner. I began to lose weight from the scene where I was brought to the prisoner market because I wanted my face to look rough.”
She continued, “When I first received the script, I had many discussions with the director and the writer. Since the drama showed the growth of Gil-chae, I wanted to clearly portray her changes throughout the story. Instead of thinking about the backstory, I acted with my focus on the character at that specific moment”.
At the beginning of the production process, several viewers raised concerns over the miscasting of Ahn Eun-jin for the role of Yoo Gil-chae. However, Ahn Eun-jin subdued the controversy by showcasing her delicate emotional expressions and solid acting skills. The actress shared, “I wanted the viewers to know that Gil-chae was immature at the beginning of the drama so I wanted her to look lovely and cute at that time.”
On the 19th, “My Dearest” team held a wrap party. Ahn Eun-jin said, “We had meat with various rounds until around 3 a.m. in the morning. About 30-40 people, including Namkoong Min, stayed until the end. No one shed tears and we ended our journey happily”.
When asked about the stories of couples formed on the set of “My Dearest”, she said, “I heard 11 couples were born during ‘Reply 1944’ filming, so we jokingly said that we might surpass them if our filming lasted longer. Since the filming of this historical drama required going to various places together, we couldn’t help but become closer to each other. It was fun to see the couples at the wrap party”, adding “They were all staff. There were no couples among the actors”, drawing laughter.
“My Dearest” is expected to achieve Daesang at the 2023 Grimer Award organized by the Korean Directors of Photography Society. Namkoong Min and Ahn Eun-jin will also receive Best Actor/Actress. In this regard, Ahn Eun-jin said, “I feel so proud that our team’s hard work has finally gained recognition”, adding “I’m also looking forward to the MBC Drama Awards at the end of this year. I’m greedy for Best Couple”.
Ahn Eun-jin then praised Namkoong-min as “an actor who explains everything through his acting”. She shared, “I received a lot of help from him while acting. I always listened to him. His ideas were very detailed and accurate. I also comforted me when I talked about my concerns.”
Ahn Eun-jin acknowledged the mixed responses regarding the drama ending and emphasized, “We filmed it for nearly a year and I’m grateful that we were able to finish it safely without any accidents.”
