Ahn Bo-hyun’s “Flex X Cop” Faces Crisis As Kim Nam-joo & Kim Soo-hyun’s Dramas Has Started Airing
“Flex X Cop” is gradually falling behind in the weekend drama competition as prominent rivals have emerged
The rating of “Flex X Cop” increased within only a week. It was the result of the empty house during the gap between the end of MBC’s “Knight Flower” and the broadcast of its follow-up drama “Wonderful World”. Without any rivals, “Flex X Cop” rating easily doubled.
However, the weekend drama competition began on March 1st as soon as “Wonderful World” started off with a rating of 5.3% in episode 1. Airing in the same week, episode 9 of “Flex X Cop” recorded 9.3% in viewership, dropping significantly from 11% in the previous episode.
“Wonderful World” gained huge attention from its first broadcast. Various mysterious events were presented, from the death of the son, Kim Nam-joo murdering the perpetrator, Cha Eun-woo losing his parents, the love affair of Kim Nam-joo’s husband Kim Kang-woo, etc. Above all, Kim Nam-joo’s crying scene overwhelmed viewers. She emotionally portrayed a mother who has lost hope in life after losing her son. In addition, Cha Eun-woo also made a drastic transformation into a rebellious and rough character.
As such, the drama exceeded 8% with only 3 episodes. On the other hand, “Flex X Cop” continued to decline to 8.3%, narrowing the rating gap between the two dramas to only 0.3%. Continuing this momentum, “Wonderful World” may surpass “Flex X Cop” very soon.
As the drama “Queen of Tears”, which was highly anticipated as “Crash Landing on You” writer Kim Ji-eun’s new project starring Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won, started airing on the 9th, a variable may occur. Although “Queen of Tears” does not air in the same time zone as “Flex X Cop” and “Wonderful World”, it is still hard to avoid competition because each of its episodes lasts for about 90 minutes.
In addition, the fluctuating ratings of “Flex X Cop” indicate that the drama doesn’t have many regular viewers. Meanwhile, “Wonderful World” can possibly maintain its popularity and ratings because Cha Eun-woo has a strong fandom not only in Korea but also overseas and Kim Nam-joo is known as a trustworthy actress among middle-aged Korean viewers.
In the first week of its broadcast, “Wonderful World” beat “Pyramid Game” and “Korea–Khitan War” in the rankings of TV-OTT drama popularity. Kim Nam-joo and Cha Eun-woo also placed No.3 and No.4 among all drama casts.
“Flex X Cop” couldn’t make it to TOP 10 in both the rankings for dramas and casts. As Kim Soo-hyun’s drama “Queen of Tears” has started airing, “Flex X Cop” is facing another crisis.
