Yoo Ah In is the top actor who is reportedly being investigated by the police for habitual use of propofol.
On Feb 8th, Yoo Ah In’s agency UAA said, “We recently received a police investigation regarding propofol.”
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety requested the police to investigate after noticing that Yoo Ah In prescribed propofol too frequently, while monitoring and tracking the distribution of psychotropic drugs,
Yoo Ah In is accused of habitually using propofol while visiting multiple hospitals.
On February 6th, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Drug Crime Investigation Unit investigated Yoo Ah In once. The police are said to have asked why he was routinely prescribed propofol at several hospitals.
In order to confirm whether propofol was habitually administered, Yoo Ah In’s body hair was requested for evaluation by the National Institute of Scientific Investigation, and a ban from leaving the country was also imposed.
As suspicion grew, UAA admitted that Yoo Ah In is being investigated by the police in connection with propofol.
The agency said, “We are actively cooperating with all investigations related to this. We will actively explain the problematic parts. We apologize for causing concern.”
There are concerns that the nightmare caused by propofol may begin once again in Korea’s entertainment industry.
Recently, Ha Jung Woo was punished for illegal propofol use, shocking the public. He faced a fine of 30 million won for illegally administering propofol at a plastic surgery clinic in Gangnam, Seoul from January 2019 to September of the same year. After self-reflection, Ha Jung Woo resumed his activities in Netflix’s original series “Narco-Saints.”
Singer Wheesung was also sentenced to 1 year in prison and 2 years of probation for illegally purchasing and using propofol on 12 occasions from September to November 2019. Illegal propofol use has been a steady problem among Korean celebrities.
Meanwhile, Yoo Ah In, born in 1986, is 36 years old this year. He debuted in 2003 and since then has appeared in the dramas “Sungkyunkwan Scandal,” “Secret Affair,” “Six Flying Dragons,” “Hellbound,” the movies “Punch,” “Veteran,” “The Throne” and “Burning.”
