Virtual character Naevis, part of the worldview of girl group aespa, will debut as a singer by featuring in aespa’s new song.
On April 26th, SM Entertainment announced that Naevis will participate in aespa’s new song “Welcome To MY World” as a featuring artist.
“Welcome To MY World” is an alternative pop song characterized by its dreamy guitar riff and grand orchestration in the latter half. The song implies an invitation for Naevis and fans to the REAL WORLD.
Naevis is a virtual character appearing in the aespa universe, playing a supporting role for the real world aespa and the virtual world avatar, æ-aespa.
The debut of the virtual character, previously only appearing in worldview content, as a singer has attracted much attention. Various reactions surfaced on Twitter, including excitement and disbelief at Naevis’ participation in the song and questions about aespa’s actual number of members.
In particular, netizens left comments such as, “I was wondering how aespa will combine their worldview into the real worlds, turns out it is Naevis featuring”, “I can’t believe it”, “Naevis, congratulations on your debut”, “I can’t believe Naevis is featuring”, and “Is Naevis an aespa member?”
The new song “Welcome To MY World” will be released on various music sites on May 2nd. Meanwhile, aespa will release their third mini-album “MY WORLD” on the 8th of the same month.
On the other hand, SM Entertainment previously announced in January that they planned to introduce Naevis as an AI artist. At the time, the agency claimed that Naevis is an artist brought to life through the total mobilization of related technologies, from natural movements to newly created voices and real-time communication. Naevis’ voice is known to be created by analyzing the voices of 12 voice actors.
