aespa Ning Ning praised for her cover of “Something Like That” by Hwayobi on “It’s LIVE”

aespa Ning Ning amazes netizens with her emotional performance of Hwayobi’s “Something Like That”

Released in 2000, “Something Like That” is a song in the debut album by Hwayobi. This song is classic. Over the past 23 years, it has been sung by countless people, including famous singers. Although many outstanding singers have done excellent covers, the public believes no one can surpass the original singer Hwayobi, proving Hwayobi’s unique voice.

Nevertheless, the version of “Something Like That” presented by aespa Ning Ning, who was born in 2002, two years after the song was released, attracted listeners in such a strange way. Many people confessed that they encountered Ning Ning’s “Something Like That” cover on “It’s LIVE” and unknowingly put it on repeat.

Standing alone on the stage with a red background, Ning Ning held the microphone and showed a determined look. As the prelude of “Something Like That” began, Ning Ning lifted her head up and stared straight ahead. She hummed, “Who-woo-woo”, and quickly captivated viewers with her emotional voice that greatly expressed the sensibility of love and breakup.

During the chorus part, Ning Ning increased listeners’ immersion in the song by replacing the high note with a calm, smooth but strong verse. Ning Ning’s almost perfect Korean pronunciation with a little different vibe since she’s Chinese delicately makes her singing sound more natural and appealing.

However, what makes Ning Ning’s cover of “Something Like That” stand out is her sincerity. Her expressions, hand gestures, and eyes when singing the song caused the illusion that she was the main character of the love and breakup in the song. It was obvious that Ning Ning focused on emotions rather than singing techniques. Despite performing alone without aespa members, Ning Ning fully understood the song wholeheartedly and delivered its message well instead of boasting about her singing skills.

It is true that this stage should be felt with both eyes and ears. As such, music fans are looking to more stages for Ning Ning to showcase her talents.
