Fourth-generation K-pop powerhouse aespa is preparing to return with a new album this May, continuing what many fans consider the group’s “May hit formula.”
According to a report by IZE on March 13, the group consisting of Karina , Winter , Giselle , and Ningning is currently preparing a new album with the goal of making a comeback in May.
The upcoming release will mark aespa’s first official comeback in about nine months since their sixth mini album Rich Man , which was released in September last year.
Since their debut, aespa has consistently delivered major hits and established themselves as one of the defining girl groups of the fourth generation. Their discography includes chart-topping songs such as Next Level , Savage , Spicy , Supernova , Dirty Work , and the title track from Rich Man .
The group has also achieved remarkable physical sales milestones. Albums including MY WORLD (1.69 million copies), Armageddon (1.15 million), Drama (1.13 million), Girls (1.12 million), and Rich Man (1.08 million) all surpassed one million first-week sales.
Notably, Girls made history as the first K-pop girl group album to reach one million copies in first-week sales , demonstrating both aespa’s strong public appeal and powerful fandom support.
One reason anticipation for this comeback is particularly high is aespa’s history of releasing major hits in May.
The song “Next Level,” which propelled the group to mainstream popularity, was released in May. Another hit track, “Spicy,” also arrived during the same month. Furthermore, their first full-length album Armageddon which included the mega hits “Supernova” and “Armageddon” was likewise released in May.
This pattern has led fans and industry watchers to view May as a particularly successful period for the group.
With aespa consistently delivering chart-topping music and record-breaking sales, many are now wondering whether the upcoming comeback will add yet another major hit to the group’s impressive “May collection.”
