Actress-Turned-Businesswoman Accused Of Not Paying Staff’s Wages Even After Fined By Court

Actress A is embroiled in a controversy over overdue wages.

According to Korean media outlet Wikitree, actress A, who runs a luxury kids’ concept store, reportedly did not pay wages to her employee B from 2021 to 2022.

B claimed that she worked at A’s shop in 2021. B said her salary began to be paid later than normal after the fourth month, and that she received only 50% of her total salary in the fifth month. B also claimed that she did not receive two months’ worth of wages after that, and that she was unilaterally notified of her being fired after these wage overdues.

“I had to work alone without consent. I had to work without lunch break,” B said. “She did not show me the year-end settlement details and did not my four major insurances (which are mandatory for Koreans). I know that there are three to four more employees who suffered the same damage other than me.”

Accordingly, B filed a complaint against A with the Seoul Eastern District Court on charges of violating the Labor Standards Act. According to the disclosed ruling, A was issued a summary order of a fine of 2.5 million won in March 2023. However, even after that, it was reported that A did not pay B the unpaid wage.

Meanwhile, A debuted in a movie in 2010. Her last acting activity was in a drama in 2018. She later married a non-celebrity businessman and has a daughter.
