With a series of incidents where stray dogs have been attacking people, China has announced plans to treat large dogs not registered on the pet list as strays and euthanize them.

In response, Joe Chen, known for her love for animals, posted on social media, “My heart aches! Stray dogs haven’t done anything wrong. Please don’t harm lost animals!” This post stirred controversy.

One netizen commented, “A 2-year-old baby and an old woman were bitten, and you said nothing about it.” Netizens criticized Joe Chen for not only complaining about the euthanization of stray dogs. Another netizen scolded her, “If you haven’t experienced the pain of being bitten by a dog, don’t speak for dogs.”

Netizens criticized Joe Chen for having double standards, referencing her past admission of enjoying eating animal testicles in a TV show and stating that protecting stray dogs while consuming animal reproductive organs is contradictory.

Meanwhile, in China, sanctions have been imposed on stars advocating for stray dog protection in addition to Joe Chen. Popular Chinese actress Xi Lan had her video on stray dog protection forcibly deleted. Broadcaster Yang Di (37) had her Weibo account suspended after uploading a video urging the public not to abuse and kill dogs.
