Actors Decided To Leave Entertainment Shows Due To Their ‘Entertainment Images’?

More and more actors have dropped out of the entertainment world to focus on acting, their main job

Jeon So-min joined SBS’s “Running Man” in April 2017 and proved her extraordinary sense of entertainment. It was burdensome to be a new member of “Running Man” due to the show’s loyal fandom, but the actress successfully blended herself into the cast and persuaded viewers with her lovely charms. Following “Running Man”, she also appeared on tvN’s “Sixth Sense” as a regular member. However, she has not been active as an actress ever since. Apart from “Top Star U-back” and “Show Window: The Queen’s House”, Jeon So-min focused on entertainment programs more than acting activities.

Therefore, Jeon So-min decided to leave “Running Man” after her last broadcast on November 12th. The actress’s agency announced the news and said, “We decided that Jeon So-min needs to spend time recharging herself so that she could show better performances, including acting, in the future”. As such, Jeon So-min is expected to showcase her presence as an actress and make attempts to renew her image for the time being. In particular, she has finished filming the movie “Only God Knows Everything”.

Prior to Jeon So-min, Lee Kwang-soo also dropped out of “Running Man” in order to focus on his acting activities. Despite the huge popularity as an entertainer he gained through “Running Man”, the actor still felt so much pressure. On the recent program “GBRB Reap What You Sow”, Lee Kwang-soo confessed, “At some point, people always expected something funny from me. So they would get disappointed when I said simple and serious things. So I drank coffee or energy drinks to raise my tension for entertainment programs.”

Apart from Lee Kwang-soo and Jeon So-min, many actors also earned popularity through entertainment programs but later announced their departures to carry out more acting activities. In particular, Lee Si-eon confessed after leaving MBC’s “I Live Alone”, “I tried to act a lot, but in the end, I was only remembered for my image on entertainment programs”. Lee Sang-yoon and Yoo Soo-bong were cast members of SBS’s “Master in the House”, but they dropped out for the sake of their acting careers.

Knowing that entertainment programs are where they can show other sides and charms other than acting, some decided to do seasonal shows or one-time appearances only. Cha Tae-hyun and Jo In-sung have continued “Unexpected Business” series for three seasons. Lee Kwang-soo, Kim Ki-bang, Kim Woo-bin, and Do Kyung-soo (EXO’s D.O) also plan to meet viewers of “GBRB Reap What You Sow” only for a short time.

Entertainment appearances can become a great weapon for actors to show their new faces, but being a fixed cast can affect their image. Therefore, they are now considering programs that allow them to increase their popularity and do acting activities at the same time.
