On August 5, actor Lee Jong-hyuk shared a touching post on his Instagram, visiting the late actor Song Young-gyu’s funeral site.
He wrote with sadness, “It is so tragic. Did you hate the world so much? I am disappointed in your weakness… I truly did not expect this. You cared for me. Rest well.”
Lee reminisced about their past, mentioning their days at Seoul Institute of the Arts where Song was his senior from the 1989 cohort. He added, “You said you were good at golf, yet I never managed to beat you. We should have played once more… You promised.”

Song Young-gyu was found deceased on the morning of August 4 inside his car in a residential area of Samga-dong, Cheoin-gu, Yongin. A friend discovered the body and reported it to the police. Authorities are investigating the circumstances with the family. The funeral is being held at the Davos Hospital funeral hall in Yongin, with the burial planned at Ham-baeksan Memorial Park.

Prior to his passing, Song had been involved in a controversy after being caught driving under the influence on June 19. His blood alcohol level was above the legal limit, resulting in the loss of his driver’s license.
Consequently, his scenes in the ENA drama The Defects were edited to avoid disrupting the storyline. He also withdrew from the stage production of Shakespeare in Love at the Seoul Arts Center, which began last month, reportedly due to the emotional toll.
