Kim Joo-young’s family confirmed on October 1 to Yonhap News that Kim had suffered from pulmonary tuberculosis in his youth, leaving his lungs weak. He later developed pneumonia and passed away on September 30.

Kim graduated from Chung-Ang University with a degree in Theater and Film and began his acting career in 1974 as part of MBC’s 6th open recruitment of actors. He also joined Tongyang Broadcasting Company (TBC) as part of its 15th talent recruitment.
He first gained public attention through the drama Chief Inspector and went on to leave a lasting impression with his appearances in numerous large-scale historical sagas. His works included 500 Years of Joseon Dynasty, Tears of the Dragon, The King and the Queen, Emperor Wang Gun, Empress Myeongseong, Age of Warriors, Emperor of the Sea, The Iron Empress, and Jeong Do Jeon.
His funeral will be held on October 2, with the burial taking place at Incheon Family Park.
