On July 9th, the Seoul Seongdong Police Station indicted an actor in his 40s on charges of assault. He’s a talent recruited by a terrestrial broadcasting station.
A reportedly drank alcohol at a restaurant in Gangnam-gu, Seoul at around 3:40 a.m. on July 2nd then drove 3km to his home in Seongdong-gu. According to the police, A’s blood alcohol concentration was at the level of a driving license revocation.
In addition, A is also facing assault charges as he choked the people who tried to contact the police suspecting A’s drunk driving.
In a phone call with MBC, A said, “After finishing half a bottle of soju with my acquaintances, I drove home by myself because I couldn’t get a proxy driver”, adding “Even when the police came, I also admitted to drunk driving”. He continued, “When I got out of the car, some people with tattoos approached me. They filmed videos and said they would follow me and report this to the media”, adding “I just wanted to run away from them, and did not cause any injuries. I’ve already filed a countersuit against them”.
The police then sent A to the prosecution on charges of drunk driving, and are still investigating his assault charges by checking CCTV footage.
If he hits someone and runs away after driving under the influence of alcohol, he will be subject to the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes. If his license is revoked and the victim is injured, A may be sentenced to more than one year in prison or fined around 5 million ~ 30 million won.
In fact, drunk driving accidents have continued to occur very frequently.
On the 9th, a female police officer was caught drunk driving after abandoning her car and fleeing to avoid getting checked. According to reports, she was driving under the influence of alcohol near Gimhae, Gyeongsangnam-do at around 1:30 a.m. on the 6th. The police chased after her as she abandoned her car and ran away to a park nearby. The female police officer’s blood alcohol concentration at that time was also high enough for a license revocation. Therefore, the police are planning to fire the female police officer and examine whether the police officers who drank with her also committed drunk driving.
