On August 12, the Daily Mail reported the tragic death of Acquene Arradaza, a 35-year-old former beauty queen from the Philippines, who was found dead after being kidnapped for four days at a grocery store in Ormoc City.

Fishermen discovered her body drifting offshore near Barangay 99 Diit, Ormoc City, on August 4 and immediately alerted authorities. The victim was found naked, with her mouth and eyes covered, hands and feet bound tightly, and her neck secured with a bicycle lock. Police revealed that her body was tied to two sacks of stones, likely in an attempt to sink and hide the evidence.

Police Lieutenant Shenna Layog, acting commander of Tacloban Police Station No. 2, described the corpse as swollen and disfigured. The victim’s face was covered with black cloth and taped shut. Forensic examination confirmed the identity as Acquene Arradaza, who was abducted on July 31 while shopping at a local store in Ormoc City.

Surveillance footage captured a black Toyota Wigo with license plate 1799 stopping in front of the store, where three armed men forcibly dragged Arradaza into the vehicle before fleeing the scene. Her family reported her missing on the morning of August 4, the same day her body was discovered.

Ormoc City Police spokesperson Lieutenant Nova Tan criticized the family for delaying the missing person report, stating that Arradaza might have been rescued if authorities were notified sooner.

Authorities are actively investigating the case, pursuing suspects and motives behind this premeditated attack. The victim’s mother, Vilma Arradaza, is calling for justice and appealing to Philippine politicians for assistance.

Additionally, Arradaza’s sister revealed that the beauty queen spoke to a man named Pay-ap Drilon on the morning of her kidnapping. Police continue to investigate this lead as part of the ongoing case.
