Accommodation costs in Busan skyrocketed even after announcement of changing BTS’s free concert venue

Accommodation costs skyrocketed throughout Busan due to BTS concert

Although the city of Busan has moved the special free concert venue of the group BTS to host the ‘2030 Busan World Expo’ on October 15th, there are still more and more people who are suffering from the ‘rip-off’ of accommodations. The problem is that accommodation prices are skyrocketing and forced cancellations continue not only in accommodations near the concert hall but also throughout Busan. There is a movement to encourage reporting of damage, centering on social networking services (SNS).

On the 4th, an article was posted on SNS and online communities saying, “We will re-inform you how to report damage to accommodation.” This was posted after the Busan Metropolitan Government originally tried to hold a BTS performance on the special stage of Ilgwang in Gijang-gun, but changed the venue to Asiad Main Stadium in Yeonje-gu.

However, the cost of lodging at the lodging companies near the concert hall, Asiad Main Stadium, has skyrocketed, disconcerting the fans. Accommodation establishments near Gijang-gun and Haeundae, where the concert was originally held, raised prices up to 10 times higher, or even forced cancellations. For this reason, the city of Busan announced that it would conduct on-site guidance, but there does not seem to be much room for improvement.

In fact, as a result of searching for accommodations near the Asiad Main Stadium on the 14th and 15th of the following month on the accommodation reservation platform, some offered more than 1 million won per night. It seems that they have inherited the behavior of lodging establishments near the concert hall.

There are not a few people who sighed, saying, “It costs several hundred thousand won for a motel, not a hotel.” One netizen stated, “Since the change of venue (concert), the number of cases of accommodation cost soaring and forced cancellation is increasing across Busan.”

There are also conscientious lodging establishments. Mr. A, who runs a lodging establishment in Busan, posted on his SNS on the 31st of last month, “I was upset and angry when I saw the bad lodging businesses in Busan.” Then, more than 6,000 people shared the information. Netizens who saw this post responded, “You are a real angel,” “Thank you for your warm heart,” “It’s so wonderful and moving.” A Japanese who was planning to visit Korea for a concert wrote, “I’m happy with the wonderful offer. I definitely want to stay.”
