A Korean visual goddess: from abused childhood, ideal marriage, to dwindling beauty

This Korean actress used to be considered a visual goddess in Korea.

Famous for visuals since her school day

Born in 1982, Han Ga In entered the entertainment industry around the same time as Son Ye Jin and Song Hye Kyo. When she was attending the Baehwa Girls’ High School, the 17-year-old Han Ga In appeared on the KBS TV show “The Golden Bell Challenge”, drawing intense attention from the public. While the actress only appeared briefly in the background, everyone was talking about her outstanding beauty. In fact, friends even say that Han Ga In received so many love letters every day, that there’s no space left on her desk.

Han Ga In once went viral just for a brief appearance on TV.

After a long time of searching for the identity of such beauty, people finally discovered the high school student Kim Hyun Joo (real name of Han Ga In), and entertainment executives who spotted her on TV immediately went to her school to offer her a part. As a result, Han Ga In became a phenomenon before she even debuted.

A tragic family life

Despite being well-recognized for her visuals since her school days, this was also the toughest period of Han Ga In’s life. According to the actress, she was abandoned by her father from a young age, and her older sister often used violence against her.

“I grew up under the beatings of my older sister. She used a lot of violence, from pulling my hair, hitting me in the stomach, to biting my toes until they bleed. When she punched me in the mouth, I was bleeding, I felt as if my lips were torn and my teeth were being knocked off”, Han Ga In actress shared.

The actress also added: “There’s no childhood photo of me. My sister was the one who raised me and did so violently. I wasn’t even allowed to go to preschool because she insisted on teaching me the alphabet, and I ended up learning it sneakily from other children”.

Even after her massive popularity, Han Ga In still suffered from this older sister, who stopped her from getting married because she didn’t want the younger one to marry first. It was not until 4 months after her sister’s wedding that Han Ga In was allowed to tie the knot with the love of her life.

A dream career and ideal marriage

Having grown up without love, Han Ga In decided to settle down early at the age of 23. Her husband is actor Yeon Jung Hoon, who provides the actress with reliability and solace, and whose parents are just as warm. According to Han Ga In, she admired the deep relationship between Jung Hoon and his family since her first time meeting and strived to also build a family that close.

Speaking about her husband, the actress expressed: “I was born in a lacking family, but Yeon Jung Hoon completed me. I see my dream family and an ideal father in him, and see myself healing as long as we are on each other’s side.”

Han Ga In married actor Yeon Jung Hoon at the age of 23.

At the time of her wedding, Han Ga In was at the height of her career, having been named a visual goddess in Korean and starred in various famous works, including “Sunshine Hunting”, “Architecture 101”,“Once Upon A Time in High School”, “Terms of Endearment”, and so on. While the marriage had certain impacts on Han Ga In’s life, her in-laws are extremely understanding and supportive, and the actress ended up scoring huge successes like “Bad Guy” and “Moon Embracing The Sun” post-marriage as well.

Recently though, Han Ga In has been slowly withdrawing from the entertainment industry. Many netizens suspect that this may be due to the actress’s dwindling beauty in her 40s.
