A difference between YG and JYP girl groups over the past 26 years that will have you shook

The ratio is surprising.

If JYP is known for being a master of producing popular girl groups, YG also gave birth to the most legendary girl groups in K-pop. If you list out all JYP and YG girl groups over the years, you may be surprised at the difference in the number of groups as well as the number of female idols that were launched between the two entertainment giants.

Specifically, within 7 years from 2015 to 2022, JYP debuted 4 girl groups: TWICE, ITZY, NiziU, and NMIXX. Each group has distinctive musicality and concept, successfully gaining the public’s attention. The total number of members of these 4 groups is 30, which means that JYP has launched 30 female idols in only 7 years. This is even excluding 2 other famous girl groups that debuted earlier, Wonder Girls or Miss A.

NiziU

NMIXX
NMIXX – 7 members

In stark contrast, within 26 years from 1996 to 2022, YG Entertainment only released 2 female idol groups with a total number of 8 members, equally divided by 2 lineups, 2NE1 and BLACKPINK. This number is not even equal to YG‘s rookie boy group TREASURE with 12 members.

2NE1 – 4 members
Blackpink
BLACKPINK – 4 members

Based on these numbers, the difference in the strategy of creating and debuting girl groups of JYP and YG can be clearly seen. However, a common point is that YG and JYP girl groups are all successful and well-loved, topping K-pop through generations. Hopefully, the debut of “BLACKPINK’s little sister” rookie group will soon be announced to increase the small number of YG’s current female idols.
