“A Chinese fusion historical K-drama?” “Under The Queen’s Umbrella” is facing split opinions due to “wrong historical evidence”

The use of Chinese expressions in some scenes is belatedly known, raising concerns.

Under The Queen’s Umbrella

The scene in question appeared in the 2nd episode, which aired on Oct 16th. While concubine Hwang Gwi-in (Ok Ja-yeon) urged Prince Uiseong (Kang Chan-hee) to take the examination for the selection match, the Chinese phrase “Mul Gwi Won Ju” raised suspicions.

The “Mul Gwi Won Ju” that appeared in this scene was written as “物归原主”, not “物歸原主”. This is a caption based on the Chinese notation of this phrase.

Since this episode, countless articles started appearing on online communities and others, pointing out this notation. As the controversy arose, the production team revised it, but disputes over history distortion are still underway.

Additionally, it has been pointed out that the tablet hanging on the palace where Joseon’s king Lee Ho (Choi Won-young) stays is also an error of historical evidence.

In the scene where Queen Hwaryeong (played by Kim Hye-soo) visits the king’s sedimentation, a tablet with “Taehwajeon” written on it was captured.

Taehwajeon Hall is the name of the truce located in the Forbidden City in Beijing, China. It refers to the place where the emperor of the Qing Dynasty received bureaucrats.

In addition, the scene in which Prince Uiseong, the third son, informally calls the Queen “your mother” to Great Prince Seongnam (Moon Sang-min) is also criticized as a historical error.

Some even suspect that the drama setting may have been based on Chinese historical dramas.

Most of all, considering the Joseon Dynasty era when the legitimate line of descent was important, it is widely believed that the court struggle in “Under The Queen’s Umbrella” is bound to be awkward.
