“Tune in for Love” starring Kim Go Eun and Jung Hae In: Bittersweet romance against a nostalgic 2000s backdrop

“Tune in for Love” is a perfect choice for a cozy weekend.

Kim Go Eun and Jung Hae In are 10 years in love in “Tune in for Love”

First time seeing one’s destiny might bring about different feelings for different people. For Mi Soo (Kim Go Eun), the first time she meets Hyun Woo (Jung Hae In), she feels afraid.

They cross paths on a normal day in 1994 when Hyun Woo asks for a soy-based dish at the bakery where Mi Soo is working as a part-timer. Despite being in an uniform, Mi Soo can guess right away that Hyun Woo was recently released from prison.

Nonetheless, Hyun Woo later returns to the bakery and works with Mi Soo as another part-timer. Hyun Woo is a handsome and resourceful guy who has a lot on his mind despite his young age.

It starts from an accident that took the life of Hyun Woo’s friends. From teachers to friends of the victims, none believed he was innocent. He had to live with the guilt for many years later. Hyun Woo said that Mi Soo is one of the rare good memories that he has.

During their time together, Hyun Woo and Mi Soo start falling for each other without them realizing it. However, things aren’t easy for them. Set against the period from 1994 to 2005 with a life-altering event of 1997 IMF Crisis, Mi Soo and Hyun Woo’s relationship cannot escape the twister of life, no matter how beautiful their love is.

10 years of being together is nothing compared to the distance they experience. However, it is comforting to know they always have each other’s heart.

Amazing acting performances

Kim Go Eun and Jung Hae In are both high-profile, capable actors in the industry.

Jung Hae In manages to bring out the varied emotions that Hyun Woo experiences. At first, he was a guy drowning in desperation. However, as soon as he meets Mi Soo, he starts to find happiness and joy in her and with her. Nonetheless, when life throws another obstacle at him, Hyun Woo, once again, faces pain and helplessness.

Kim Go Eun does not fall short of her performance as Mi Soo. She is able to convey the nervous feelings when she is asked out by Hyun Woo, the shyness when they shares their first kiss and the anger after witnessing the miserable life of her sister. Kim Go Eun brings those emotions out raw and whole.

Moreover, Kim Go Eun and Jung Hae In always have a perfect chemistry whatever the scenes they were doing. Therefore, Kim Go Eun was nominated “Best Actress” at the “2020 Chunsa Film Art Awards” and Jung Hae In won the “Best New Actor” at the “56th Grand Bell Awards.”

Disappointing scripts

Tune in for Love

One more praiseworthy feature of the movie was the recreation of the 90s. Old technologies such as the radio, thick computers with Windows 95 or flip phones generated a strong sense of nostalgia for the audience. The soundtrack in the movie also gave a romantic feeling to the whole movie.

Nonetheless, with various elements well planned out, the script was the most disappointing thing, according to the audience. They believed the built conflict was not strong and convincing enough to lead to an inevitable breakup of the couple. The question remains: Why do they still choose to bid farewell when there are solutions to their problems?
