On July 25, You Quiz on the Block‘s official social media accounts shared a preview clip with the caption, “Future Korea Football Association president Kim Jong-kook(?) K Football Innovation Committee chairman Park Ji-sung: ‘Kim Jong-kook wasn’t qualified to coach Shoot Dori.'”
The preview featured Park Ji-sung as a guest on the episode scheduled to air on July 29. Host Yoo Jae-suk recalled a previous joke made on the program, saying, “We once jokingly recommended Kim Jong-kook as the next president of the Korea Football Association. He said that if he were given the job, he’d work hard and even do it without taking a single penny.”
Kim Jong-kook then made a surprise appearance on set, prompting Park Ji-sung to reveal, “I spoke with him yesterday. He told me he would be appearing on You Quiz on the Block today.” The three longtime acquaintances Yoo Jae-suk, Park Ji-sung, and Kim Jong-kook, who previously appeared together on Running Man shared a warm reunion filled with laughter.
When asked whether he had ever considered becoming a professional football coach, Park Ji-sung explained that the process would now take too long. “It’s already too late. You need to earn coaching licenses, and that takes a long time. I currently have a B License, but to coach professionally you have to obtain an A License and then a Pro License. The Pro License is required to manage a first-division team,” he said.
Yoo Jae-suk then reminded everyone that Kim Jong-kook had previously served as a coach on the children’s football variety show Fly Shoot Dori. Park responded, “By today’s standards, that means he was technically unqualified,” sparking laughter in the studio.
Kim Jong-kook famously served as a coach on the original Fly Shoot Dori when the popular children’s football program first premiered in 2005. His coaching role became one of the memorable highlights of the show’s early years.
