ITZY member Ryujin has apologized after a moment during the group’s concert in the Philippines sparked online discussion, explaining that she was simply trying to relieve severe discomfort caused by her stage outfit. The singer addressed the issue during a live broadcast on July 19, saying she wanted to personally apologize to fans and explain what happened.
The controversy stems from ITZY’s solo concert held on July 11 at SM Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines, as part of the group’s third world tour. During a performance of “THAT’S A NO NO,” Ryujin was seen repeatedly adjusting the lower portion of her jumpsuit while on stage. When the outfit continued to feel uncomfortable, she briefly reached inside her shorts to reposition the costume.
Videos of the moment quickly spread across online communities and social media, prompting mixed reactions from fans and netizens. Some defended Ryujin, commenting that many women would understand the discomfort caused by an ill-fitting outfit and viewed her reaction as completely natural. Others, however, argued that although the situation was understandable, reaching inside her shorts while performing on stage was inappropriate and distracting.
Addressing the controversy during her livestream, Ryujin explained that her jumpsuit had ridden up to the point of causing significant pain. “I received so many messages and criticism about it,” she said. “I’d like to apologize and explain why I put my hand inside my pants.”
She continued: “First of all, the jumpsuit had ridden up so much that it really hurt. I absentmindedly pulled it down. But when I watched the video afterward, I understood why people reacted the way they did.” Ryujin admitted that, in hindsight, the gesture appeared more noticeable than she had realized. “My hand went in pretty far. I guess I’ve become a little too comfortable,” she said with a laugh.
While joking that the jumpsuit “was trying to split me in half,” Ryujin emphasized that she still believed her actions were inappropriate for a public performance. She apologized directly to fans, saying: “I’m sorry for behaving that way on stage.” The ITZY member added that she would be more mindful in the future. “Even so, putting my hand inside my pants in a public place especially on stage wasn’t the right thing to do.
