In the 28th episode of SBS Plus’ Divine Talk Show: Strange Stories 2, airing at 10:30 p.m. KST on July 13, Choi Yoojung and Kwon Hyuk Soo will appear as guests for a special episode centered around the theme of “bad luck that turns into good fortune.”
MC Lee Guk Joo introduces the topic by asking, “Have you ever experienced something that made you feel like you’d gone through bad luck for a greater blessing?” Choi Yoojung recalls a frightening incident that happened shortly before Weki Meki’s second album promotions. “Our dorm caught fire after I re-debuted with Weki Meki,” she says. “I woke up while sleeping in the living room, and the entire house was glowing red. Since our company building was right next door, I ran to the practice room and looked in the mirror.”
She continues, “I was wearing a full-body teddy bear pajama suit. The hood had caught fire, and the teddy bear’s face on it had burned through. But strangely, not a single strand of my hair was burned.” The fortune tellers on the show react in shock, saying she narrowly escaped a major accident. Choi Yoojung laughs as she adds, “After that, fans really loved the album. We even joked that maybe we had gone through bad luck first so good things could happen afterward.”
When Lee Guk Joo asks whether there was another painful experience that eventually led to success, Choi Yoojung reflects on her survival show days. “As someone who debuted through an audition program, I remember being mentally exhausted right before joining it. I felt like I was completely falling apart. I entered the show thinking it was my last chance, and somehow I ended up debuting. Sometimes I wonder if all the pain I went through at seventeen was my own form of bad luck before better things arrived.” Lee Guk Joo offers words of comfort.
Choi Yoojung also opens up about her personal insecurities. “I feel like my personality isn’t naturally suited to being a celebrity,” she admits. “I’ve never had a particularly strong mentality. I often wonder whether this career truly fits me, whether it’s okay for me to stay in the entertainment industry, or if there’s another profession that’s meant for me.”
One of the fortune tellers reassures her, saying, “If this job truly wasn’t right for you, you would have given up long ago. You wouldn’t have made it this far. As you get older, you’ll find yourself enjoying this career even more.” The fortune teller also predicts positive opportunities after the program airs, saying, “I can see new schedules and good things coming your way after this appearance.”
Another fortune teller comforts her by saying, “It’s only natural that your heart is fragile because you’ve been hurt by people so many times. Starting this year, you’ll begin meeting people who genuinely support and help you. You’re going to succeed, so there’s no need to worry.” Hearing those words, Choi Yoojung becomes emotional and bursts into tears.
The singer also asks about her love life, saying, “Will I get married someday? And what kind of person will I marry?” Viewers will have to tune in to the July 13 broadcast of Strange Stories 2 to hear the fortune teller’s prediction about her future spouse.
Meanwhile, Choi Yoojung recently reunited with I.O.I for special reunion activities and is continuing promotions as a solo artist with her latest album.
