The Blu-ray release of Perfect Crown, starring IU and Byeon Woo Seok, has officially been cancelled.

On June 15, the Blu-ray production team for MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama Perfect Crown announced through its official fan café and social media accounts that plans for the Blu-ray release had been permanently scrapped.

Perfect Crown Blu-ray cancellation

Despite the controversy surrounding allegations of historical distortion tied to the drama, the production team had still accepted advance pre-orders from May 8 to May 18. However, the lingering backlash ultimately led to the cancellation decision. At the time, the Blu-ray had been priced at 259,800 won and was scheduled to be sold through Yes24.

News of the cancelled Blu-ray release sparked sharply divided reactions among domestic and international fans. Korean netizens expressed disbelief, leaving comments such as, “I can’t believe they were still trying to push this,” “After all that controversy?” “The fact that they even considered it is shocking,” “This is ridiculous,” and “Only now?”

Meanwhile, overseas fans voiced disappointment over the decision. Some commented, “Please produce the Blu-ray. It’s the least they can do for those who supported the drama,” “Make it available for international fans, please,” “This is disappointing for global audiences,” and “Please release the Blu-ray.”

Perfect Crown became embroiled in controversy over claims of historical distortion, leading not only the production team but also lead stars IU and Byeon Woo Seok to issue public apologies to audiences.
