On June 13, YouTube channel Entertainment President Lee Jin Ho uploaded a video titled “After 14 Years of Dating! Jung Kyung Ho and Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung Breakup Signs”, where Lee Jin Ho discussed the former couple’s recent separation with an industry journalist.
When asked about the possible timeline of the breakup, the reporter referenced Sooyoung’s drama I Dol I, in which the actress appeared last year. According to staff members on set, Sooyoung reportedly seemed noticeably troubled during filming.
“The staff described her as someone who looked full of worries and emotional burden,” the reporter explained. “Of course, the drama itself had a heavy emotional tone, so it could have been part of her immersion into the role. But even in private settings, many people reportedly said she seemed lower in energy than usual, depressed, and deeply concerned about something.”
The reporter added that after news of the breakup surfaced, some staff members allegedly reacted by saying, “Ah, so that’s why she seemed like that.”
Since the drama wrapped up near the end of last year, with filming believed to have taken place during the summer and fall, the journalist noted that it remains unclear whether the couple had already broken up during production or if Sooyoung had been contemplating the relationship for several months.
Lee Jin Ho also pointed to an appearance Jung Kyung Ho made on Girls’ Generation member Hyoyeon’s YouTube channel in December last year as a possible clue. He noted that Jung Kyung Ho, who had previously spoken naturally about Sooyoung in interviews and broadcasts, barely mentioned her at all during that appearance.
“Whenever he appeared on TV before, he would casually mention Sooyoung,” Lee Jin Ho said. “But this time, her name only came up once, and even then, Jung Kyung Ho didn’t bring it up first. Hyoyeon mentioned Sooyoung, and only then did her name enter the conversation.”
Further claims also suggested there may have been differing opinions between people close to the former couple regarding how the breakup should be handled publicly.
According to the reporter, people close to Jung Kyung Ho reportedly preferred to keep the breakup quiet and avoid media attention, while those around Sooyoung allegedly wanted to “settle things quickly” and confirm the news sooner.
The discussion also touched on whether Girls’ Generation member Tiffany Young’s recent marriage may have influenced the couple’s relationship. However, the journalist dismissed the idea, stating that long-term couples like Sooyoung and Jung Kyung Ho likely had already discussed their own future plans privately over the years.
“I don’t think someone suddenly asks, ‘Why am I not married yet?’ just because a friend gets married,” she said, offering her personal view.
Sooyoung and Jung Kyung Ho began dating in 2012 and publicly confirmed their relationship in 2014, becoming one of Korea’s most beloved long-term celebrity couples. However, after nearly 14 years together, the pair recently decided to end their romantic relationship.
